The Franchises

Here are the sixteen franchises.

Franchise pairings were determined by a rough ordering of NFL history in an attempt to even talent across the league, at least in its initial distribution. So, the dominant franchises get paired with the newer ones. It made for some interesting combinations–are any teams more despised by those outside of their core fans than Dallas and Seattle? And while some of the pairings were quite odd, as historical arch-rivals ended up together (New England and the New York Jets; San Diego and Oakland), the intertwining of their historical narratives seems to work–we remember many of those players in relation to each other.

Home and Away uniforms are modeled by that franchise’s Year I and Year II Offensive and Defensive MVP’s. Only Dublin has been boring enough to have the same MVP’s each year, and 5 other players repeated league-wide.

Of the Year II MVP’s, Cam Newton, Gerald McCoy, and Elvis Dumervil find themselves changing teams. While Dumervil was through trade, the other two were by franchise choice, with Newton now the backup in New York and McCoy in the mix for Sydney.
