Welcome to the inaugural installment of TWIWFL for Year III. We’re separating out the injury report, instead, we’ll focus on some overall league news here.
That said, Terrell Owens‘ injury seems worth noting, as he did win the Offensive Player of the Week award after running up over 200 yards receiving in a thrilling loss to New York, where Eli Manning found Odell Beckham, Jr. for the winning TD with under 30 seconds to play.
Owens was joined by Dublin’s J.J. Watt as the Defensive Player of the Week and Berlin’s Eric Weems as the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Defending champions Istanbul were edged by Sydney despite 374 yards passing by Johnny Unitas and 100 yards rushing from Franco Harris. The key were 8 drops by Istanbul’s receivers, with Antonio Brown–who never looked quite right, and was confirmed injured for a couple months afterwards–dropping 3 balls.
In a matchup of perennial powers, Len Dawson (379 yards and 5 TDs) and Jim Brown (207 yards rushing) led Rio de Janeiro past Tokyo despite George Blanda‘s 458 yards passing.
