Year III Preview: Sydney

{Numbers in braces are Approximate Value, other stats labeled as appropriate.}

A team in search of enough talent to take the next step.

Key Additions: John Stallworth from IST; Roger Brown from SFO.
Key Departures: Malcolm Jenkins {4, to ROM}.
Rookies To Watch: Tony Banfield, Kim Bokamper, Jerome Brown, Jake Elliott, Saverio Rocca.

QB

Dan Marino {17} continues to be the first choice at QB for the Great White, and Donvan McNabb {1} returns as his backup, with Carson Wentz joining as the 3rd option.

RB / WR / TE

Thunder & Lightning returns, with Wilbert Montgomery {11} being the primary back with significant support from Larry Csonka {2}. Darren Sproles {4} returns as the scatback, and O.J. Simpson {1} should see some time as well.

Harold Carmichael {14} and Jeremy Maclin {12} are the clear top 2 receivers, but from there it took a preseason battle to separate John Stallworth {5}, Dwight Clark {8}, and Bobby Mitchell {4}. Clark retained his top spot, with Mitchell edging Stallworth in 4 receiver sets.

Zach Ertz {14} returns as the TE.

OL

The entire offensive line–Dwight Stephenson {12} at C, flanked by Larry Little {14} and Evan Mathis {10} at G and Bob Brown {11} and Lane Johnson {8} at T–returns.

DL

Sydney moves to a 4-3 with Reggie White {9} and Jason Taylor {11} at DE and 2 newcomers, Jerome Brown and Roger Brown {4} anchoring the middle. Those 4 should be quite solid, but …

LB

… questions remain at LB. Not in the middle, where Zach Thomas {11} should continue to shine, but on the outside, where Connor Barwin {7} has been a consistent surprise in the league, and rookie Kim Bokamper steps into the opposite starting spot.

DB

Eric Allen {6} and rookie Tony Banfield start at CB with Reshad Jones {4} returning at one S spot. The other was up for grabs in preseason and Jake Scott {1} beat out Brandon Meriweather {9} and Jairus Byrd {2} for the starting role.

ST

It’s a new crew for the Great White kicking game, with K Jake Elliott and P Saverio Rocca joining the team. Sproles will handle the bulk of the returns.
