02.14 – This Week In Whirled Football

We are heading for the homestretch …

As such, it seemed a good time to highlight just how remarkable Istanbul and Tokyo’s seasons have been. In the WFL, everyone has injuries, sure, but those two teams have been continually decimated, and it speaks to their organizational depth that they’ve maintained their play throughout.

Overall, Week 14 was a bit calmer on the injury front, with some notable exceptions.

#CTO

Fran Tarkenton, who has done well since being handed the QB role in Cape Town, will miss the next few weeks. It’s likely that Teddy Bridgewater starts, but it’s not clear how quickly the Makana will turn to Matt Cassel or Neil Lomax in relief.

#DUB

Dublin will miss 2 key OL for their next game, as both Bryan Bulaga and David Bakhtiari are out. Bulaga should be back quickly, but Bakhtiari is an outside shot to see the field again this season. Their losses are offset by the return of both Mike Michalske and Steve Wisiniewski.

#IST

Istanbul suffered a key blow, with Ray Lewis and Jack Butler both likely to miss the rest of the regular season. Look for Brendan Ayanbedejo and Donnie Shell to see more snaps as a result.

#LOM

The Dzidudu have a premier top 2 at wideout in Torry Holt and Henry Ellard, but their next 3 WRs are all injured, opening the door for Roscoe Parrish, Chris Givens, and Peerless Price to make their case for Year 3 roster spots.

#RIO

For the 1st time all season, essentially, the Carnival have their full complement of WRs available, as Paul Warfield returns from injury to join Josh Gordon and Michael Crabtree.

#SFO

The Sea Lions seem to be making a late season charge, one that will certainly be helped by the return of Joe Staley.

#TOK

The challenges for the Swallows keep mounting: the best receiver in the league this year, Demaryius Thomas, will miss at least 1 game, and Kamerion Wimbley is done for the year.
