02.13 – This Week In Whirled Football

The final major draft of the year!

As part of the 10 Week Review, each team determined a few needs. Now, a bye week and a game later, they can act on them. The worst team in the league (Boston) has a wealth of choice about who to add, the best team (Istanbul) will get whomever they get.

#AAA

For a team hovering around .500, Addis Ababa is pretty strong, top to bottom. They picked up OL Steve Wisniewski, more for depth than anything else.

#AMS

There was a small chance the Lions would not pick a WR. Now that both Calvin Johnson and Steve Smith are out with injuries, it is undoubtedly a WR: welcome aboard, Herman Moore!

#BER

Looking to shore up both pass protection and the running game, Berlin picked OL Stan Jones.

#BOS

Even with Rob Gronkowski out for the rest of the season, Boston went for help on the defensive end, picking up DB Malcolm Butler.

#CTO

Gary Zimmerman should help the OL, but this team may need more than that to do much over the rest of the season.

#DUB

It wasn’t clear where the Damhas would go: they picked up DB Herb Adderley, but it’s not clear he’ll see much playing time.

#IST

In a classic case of the rich getting richer, Istanbul adds Jonathan Ogden to their OL.

#LOM

Thurman Thomas is out for the rest of the year, but the Dzidudu still went for help in the offensive line, picking up Adam Timmerman.

#LON

The injury bug is starting to take its tool in London. This week, it hit hard at 2 spots already weak for the Fog, C and RB, with Bobby Maples, DeMarco Murray, and Glenn Presnell all going down. There are hopes that draftee Shaun Alexander can help in the backfield.

#NYG

With both Tony Boselli and Brandon Linder out, the Royal Giants brought in Bruiser Kinard to shore up the offensive line.

#RIO

Six–six–players return from injury for Rio, led by Len Ford, Josh Gordon, Lou Groza, and Johnny Robinson. Add to that draft pick Buck Buchanan (who was actually with the team earlier in the season), and it’s a massive turnover for the Carnival in their attempt to catch Istanbul.

#ROM

A team that needs help nearly everywhere gets it in the secondary with Lemar Parrish. The Empire are also–yet again–turning to Peyton Manning at QB. If Manning does not impress over the next few games, Rome is very likely to move on, perhaps from both him and Andrew Luck.

#SYD

The Great White welcome Jake Scott to shore up a weak secondary.

#TOK

The Swallows hope Ray Childress will have an impact on their injury depleted defensive line.
