02.07 – This Week In Whirled Football

The first set of bye weeks is complete! But, the roster moves and injuries roll on …

#AMS

Jimbo Covert will likely miss the rest of the season, leaving the Lions quite thin at T: there are questions whether Travelle Wharton really is a WFL quality lineman. Mel Gray returns this week, which should help a little.

#BER

Lance Briggs‘ return certainly helps, but with Jeff Van Note out for a couple weeks, Berlin will have to rely on Kynan Forney at C.

#LON

London had a rough time with injuries over the bye week: Bobby Wagner is out for close to 2 months, and Emmitt Smith for longer. Smith has a capable backup in Marshawn Lynch, but there are questions as to whether Dat Nguyen and Will Compton can cover for Wagner in the middle of the field.

#NYG

The Royal Giants welcome back 2 important players in Brad Van Pelt and Jeremy Shockey. This is the 2nd consecutive year Van Pelt has missed significant time, we’ll see if he can stay on the field for the rest of the season.

#RIO

The Carnival got hit over the bye week, as 3 defensive starters are looking to miss time: Eric Berry should be out for just 1 game, but both Bobby Bell and Clay Matthews, Sr. are looking at over a month on the sidelines. Rio will hope that Justin Houston, Donnie Edwards, and Keena Turner can pitch in at LB. They do get Joe Thomas back at T.

#ROM

Rumors that Earl Morrall was about to be given his first WFL start were squashed when he got injured in practice, and is now likely to miss the rest of the season. Look for the Empire to go back to Andrew Luck, but on a very short leash with Peyton Manning and newly drafted John Brodie both getting reps with the 1st team over the bye week.

#TOK

Tokyo’s RB situation looks better with the great performance from C.J. Anderson. But behind him is a medical disaster, as both Juwan Thompson and Carlos Hyde are out for over a month. That means some more carries for Pug Manders, and perhaps even Zach Line or Jerome Felton.
