01.11 This Week in Whirled Football

What a week! The biggest headlines were in the Week 11 Draft, but we had our usual spate of injuries and roster shifts as well.

#AAA

The injury bug finally hit the Emperors, as 9 players hit IR this week. Two important starters will miss at least one week (C Jim Otto and DB Dick Harris); but Khalif Barnes, Jon Condo, and Manti Te’o will all miss at least 2 months. Stefan Wisniewski and D.J. Fluker should see more snaps on the offensive line, and Donald Butler and Gary Plummer look to be the players moved up at LB. Week 10 draftee Kenny Graham went immediately to IR as well.

#AMS

What Amsterdam would give for a week of not being mentioned in TWIWFL. FIVE more long term injuries this week: QB Matthew Stafford, OL Garrett Reynolds, DE’s Mike Rucker and Al Baker, and CB Darius Slay are all unlikely to see the field again this season.

#BOS

A few key injuries for the Bulldogs’ next game: John Hannah and Tim Wright will be out for only a week of two, but Vince Wilfork will miss a couple months.

#CTO

Ouch. Larry Fitzgerald looks done for the season, taking away one of Cape Town’s best offensive weapons.

#IST

A makeshift defensive line gets even moreso: Greg Lloyd is out for 10 weeks and Haloti Ngata will spend about a month on the sidelines. Dwight White, who has been good filling in, is also out for at least one game.

#LON

The Fog have been very deep at WR and RB all year; that will be called into question next week, as both Steve Largent and Emmit Smith look likely to miss the game. Percy Harvin‘s return from an early season injury should help.

#ROM

After being benched earlier in the season, Peyton Manning will take charge once again as Andrew Luck is out for at least one week. Bobby Boyd‘s absence will be felt as well.

#SFO

San Francisco got hit pretty hard this week, as Rickey Jackson and Patrick Willis are most likely done for the year, and Anquan Boldin, Sam Mills, and Justin Smith are all out for at least the next game.Look for Julian Peterson to get more snaps with Jackson out; Willis will be harder to replace, as Desmond Bishop is next man up behind him.
