01.09 This Week In Whirled Football

A bit of a light week for This Week in Whirled Football. Injuries continue to make an impact throughout the league, and with another needs-based draft looming after week 10, another round of roster churn is just around the corner.

There are so many players on the Lions’ IR they can only carry 9 on their taxi squad. Things are starting to look up, as several starters are due back in the coming weeks, but Steve Smith‘s absence for the next month will hurt.

#BOS

The Bulldogs backfield continues to look like The Walking Dead. Chris Johnson lasted 2 games; Curtis Martin 5, and now, with both Shane Vereen and Joe McKnight on IR, it looks like Bruce Harper, Chris Ivory, and Carl Garrett will try to carry the load.

#DUB

Another team forced to carry a smaller taxi squad due to IR, there is some hope for the Damhas, as both Brandon Brooks and Cal Hubbard return this week. There are rumors that Aaron Rodgers is in danger of losing his starting job under center to Ryan Fitzpatrick, but nothing is certain at this point.

The hits keep coming: 6 players were added to Istanbul’s IR list this week, including starters Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil. While Jack Butler‘s return will help offset the loss of Troy Polamalu, both offensive tackle and defensive end remain major questions for the Janissaries. Look for Kelvin Beachum and Max Starks to start at T; the defensive line will be patchwork, with both taxi-squaders Dwight White and L.C. Greenwood likely to see snaps.

Walter Jones will be a game time decision for the Fog, but they’ve already named Tony Romo the starter for next week. Given Russell Wilson‘s spectacular performances over the past three weeks (including being named Offensive Player of the Week in Week 9), that choice is sure to generate some controversy in London.
