01.07 This Week In Whirled Football

Another week in the books!

#BEI

The Red Stars welcome Mike Glennon, Cliff Battles, Alfred Morris, and Derrick Brooks back in an effort to turn around their season. We’ll see if that’s enough.

#BER

The Bärin will once again turn to Matt Ryan with Sid Luckman out injured. John Abraham and Ray Brown are likely to miss the game as well, and Brian Urlacher may be out for the season. Look for Paul Worrilow and Bill George to see more time at LB for Berlin.

#CTO

When Chandler Catanzaro went down, the Makana turned to Jim Bakken, who has done quite well. Now, Bakken is out, and Cape Town will turn their kicking duties over to Fuad Reveiz. As importantly, Calais Campbell, who has had a great season so far, will miss a few months, with Bryan Robison likely to see more snaps on the defensive line as a result.

#DUB

With both Ryan Pickett and Jerrell Powe missing from the defensive line, the Damhas are likely to take a closer look at both Dave Hanner and Lavvie Dilweg.

#LOM

It was rough week for the Dzidudu, with 6 players joining the injured: Janoris Jenkins, E.J. Manuel, Merlin Olsen, and Aaron Wilson will all miss a week and Tre Mason and Keith Rivers are likely to be out about a month. There is some good news: Austin Davis, who has performed adequately at QB, is back, preventing the likelihood of Doug Flutie getting the start.

#LON

Tony Romo has been ruled out, giving Russell Wilson another start to prove he is WFL material. The Fog will be missing two other starters in Russell Okung and Percy Harvin, each expected to miss about a month. Tyron Smith should step into Okung’s spot; replacing Harvin’s deep threat is more difficult.

#NYG

Plaxico Burress will be out for quite a while, leaving the Royal Giants searching for a reliable 3rd receiver: look for either Allen Hurns or Reuben Randle to step into that role. Lawrence Taylor is out for at least one week, meaning the middle of the field will be patrolled by Geno Hayes and Telvin Smith, which could be trouble for New York.

#RIO

If there was a week to play the Carnival, this is it: Jim Brown, Len Dawson, Ben Davis, and Derrick Thomas are all game-time decisions for next week; although with Jamaal Charles and Otto Graham on hand, the odds are the party in Rio just keeps rolling along. Joe Haden is out for at least a month, and while Hanford Dixon is a strong replacement, if Davis is also sidelined, that means Buster Skrine or Week 4 Draftee Bobby Hunt may be forced into starting duty at cornerback.

#SFO

Jairus Byrd, Marques Colston, and Joe Staley are all banged up, but the real news is that Charles Haley will miss a couple months. Ray McDonald should step into the starting role, but Haley’s absence will hurt the Sea Lions’ pass rush.
