01.05 This Week In Whirled Football

This week saw the first of two in-season drafts. Aside from that, the usual round-up of injury and performance related roster juggling follows!

#AMS

The Lions continue to struggle to stay healthy, with twelve players on injured reserve after week five, including both starting Guards. Amsterdam will look to Nate Chandler and Garrett Reynolds to cover for the injured Larry Worford and Andrew Norwell, John Gordy having played himself to the bench.

#BER

Early MVP candidate Sid Luckman will miss at least a week, putting Matt Ryan at Berlin’s helm.

#CTO

After six last week, the Makana only suffered a single injury, but it was to QB Teddy Bridgewater. Look for Fran Tarkenton to start. Matt Asiata returns as well, which should help reduce the load on Andre Ellington.

#IST

With Franco Harris sidelined, look for Bernard Pierce and LeGarrette Blount to get the majority of the carries for Istanbul. Ed Reed makes his return, which should help the defense.

#LOM

The Dzidudu add six players to their injured list this week, most notably Fred Jackson and Sammy Watkins. The defense will be bolstered, however, by the return of both Cornelius Bennett and Isaiah Robertson.

#LON

League-leading tackler Bobby Wagner is out, so expect both Dat Nguyen and Anthony Hitchens to see more time for the Fog. There is also a growing voice among Fog fans urging Russell Wilson to be given a chance to lead the team over the increasingly ineffective Tony Romo.

#NYG

Already sporting a long injured list, the Royal Giants added to it this week, as five more starters will miss time, including all-world receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. Pete Henry‘s return will be welcomed, but this is a team struggling with health right now.

#RIO

Just when things were looking up, as both Len Dawson and Paul Warfield returned, the Carnival lost two receivers, with both Dwayne Bowe and deep threat Josh Gordon likely to miss two months.

#ROM

Bad news got worse as it is now pretty certain D’Qwell Jackson is done for the year. The Empire welcome Geno Atkins back

#SFO

Wide receivers Terrell Owens and Marques Colston return from injury; Lance Moore and–most impactfully–Anquan Boldin head the other way, with Boldin likely to be out for a month.Stevie Johnson has been doing a great job filling in, but look for the pressure to mount on him and fellow fill-in Jerry Rice.

#TOK

Starting QB George Blanda will miss the next game, turning control of the Swallows over to John Elway.
